Letters of Transit

Letters of Transit by Matthew Stevenson is a collection of essays on travel, history, politics and family life abroad. A former associate editor of Harper's and a contributor to numerous publications, including American Scholar, Stevenson writes with grace and humor about such diverse subjects as raising small children in Europe-he lives in Switzerland-to accounts of hot spots such as Serbia, the Middle East or Latin America. His interests range from the history of World War II-in which his father served with the Marine Corps on Guadalcanal and Peleliu-to the current politics of situations such as South Korea today and Fiji. Stevenson has traveled to the far corners of the globe, and his descriptions combine the humorous twists of Mark Twain with the insights of a seasoned traveler and writer.
